Decent crossing, could improve food

I used Brittany Ferries for a Portsmouth to St Malo crossing, taking my car. The booking online was simple enough, and I found a good time slot. The ferry left promptly and arrived on schedule, which was a plus. My standard cabin was fine for sleeping, clean enough. The main area for improvement was the onboard food; it was a bit pricey for what you got, and the selection wasn't great. Not terrible, but could be better. Customer service at check-in was efficient. Overall, a solid way to travel, just pack some snacks.

Holiday package was great

So, we booked one of their holiday packages, a gite holiday with the Portsmouth to Caen ferry. It was super easy to get it all sorted on their site. The ferry crossing itself was chill, had some food on board. The gite was just what we needed for a quiet week. Really happy with how it all turned out.

Good trip, pet cabin worked out

We booked a Cork to Roscoff ferry crossing with our car and a pet-friendly cabin for our dog. The online booking system was clear, and finding the pet cabin option was simple. Check-in at Cork was smooth, and the staff were helpful. The cabin itself was clean and big enough for us and our furry friend. Onboard dining was decent, nothing fancy but did the job. Arrival in Roscoff was on schedule. The whole process, from booking to disembarking, was pretty seamless. I had a question about pet requirements before booking and their customer service responded quickly via email. Would use them again for sure.

Amazing trip to Spain!

Just got back from our Plymouth to Santander ferry trip with our motorhome and it was fantastic! The onboard facilities were brilliant, we even got a luxury commodore suite which was so comfortable. The staff were all so friendly and helpful. It was such a stress-free way to travel with our vehicle. Can't wait to book another trip with them!

Trying to compare Brittany Ferries vs P&O for a trip to France. Anyone got experience with both? Is one significantly better for car travel or onboard stuff?

J Jacob Parker 3 weeks ago
Brittany Ferries generally feels a bit more like a 'cruise' experience, especially on the longer routes. The ships tend to be bigger, more amenities, better dining options than P&O in my experience. P&O is usually quicker if you're just trying to get across the channel fast.

For car travel, both are fine, but I'd say BF is more comfortable if you're spending longer on board. The cabins are usually nicer and there's more space to stretch your legs. P&O is often cheaper if you're just doing a short hop, but the overall vibe is different.

Thinking of booking a ferry to Spain for next summer, is it better to book super early or wait for last minute deals? Heard sometimes prices drop closer to the date.

E Eric S. 4 weeks ago
Definitely book early for Spain. I tried to snag a last-minute one once and it was way more expensive, plus cabin choices were super limited. They do early bird offers that save you a decent chunk.

Yeah, if you're set on a date and route, early is usually best. Especially if you want a specific type of cabin or are bringing a car. I think they can save you up to 25% if you jump on it.

What's the deal with taking pets on board? Is it only certain cabins or can they just stay in the car? Planning a trip to France with my dog.

B Barbara Lopez 1 month ago
They have pet-friendly cabins, which are great! You book those specifically. Otherwise, the pets usually have to stay in your car for the journey, with designated times you can go down to check on them. Not all routes have the pet-friendly cabins, so check that out when you book.

My friend brought their cat to Spain and they had a pet-friendly cabin. Said it was much better than leaving the cat in the car. It's an extra cost but worth it for peace of mind.

Hey, I've got a Blue Light Card. Does Brittany Ferries actually do a discount for that? Or is it one of those things where it's only for like, specific dates?

J Jacob Sanchez 1 month ago
Yeah, they do! My mate used his Blue Light Card for a trip to France last year, got a pretty sweet deal. Just make sure you apply it when booking, don't think you can add it later.

I'm pretty sure they do. I saw it mentioned somewhere on their site too. Worth checking directly with them or on their FAQ if you can't find the option online, but it's a recognised discount from what I remember.

If I book a crossing and then decide to upgrade my cabin later, is that usually possible? Or am I stuck with what I originally picked?

K Kevin A. 2 weeks ago
I think it depends on availability. If there are better cabins free, they usually let you upgrade, but you'll pay the difference. Best to call them directly after you book if you're thinking of it.

D Daniel Taylor 2 weeks ago
Yeah, I've upgraded before. It was pretty easy, just had to pay a bit more. They often have offers for upgrades too if you keep an eye out, especially closer to the sailing date if they have empty premium cabins.
